Here is the definitive list from the dfee: Data by types of special
educational need:
Ref: dfes-1889-2005

A: Cognition and Learning Needs
Specific Learning Difficulty (SPLD)
Moderate Learning Difficulty (MLD)
Severe Learning Difficulty (SLD)
Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties( PLMLD)

B: Behaviour, Emotional and Social Development Needs
Behaviour, Emotional and Social Difficulty (PMLD) I think this should be 
(BESD) not PMLD

C: Communication and Interaction Needs:
Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SCLN)
Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

D: Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Visual Impairment (VI)
Hearning Impairment (HI)
Multi-sensory impairment
Physical Disability (PD)
