I agree totally and the acceptance by the majority of the teaching
establishment "because we can't be seen to rock the boat" (that's a direct
quote from a head teacher who has since retired thru ill health) is a crime.
Stick together and get the appropriate support for these kids who are
struggling. The question of suicide is a cry for help and is not unusual.

I also agree there will be a storm of protest over these 2 posts.

"We are trying our best"

"We are trying our best"

"There's not enough money to go round"

"We have to follow the guidelines"

"I might lose my job"

I've heard it all before and it doesn't wash, the kids should come 1st.

Now I feel better.

Just because other LEA's do it does not make it right!

As a parent I faced the same problems of 'criteria or templates or whatever
they keep changing them to ensure they do not go above their 2% Statementing
quota and get fined.

- Daughter severe SpLD but IQ 141 keeping her afloat Her SAT' were
originally 2A/3 which meant the school did not have to support her & made it
plain. I was fed up with her crying all the time and once discussing suicide
as it was all too tough trying to learn in  an education system that wanted
to pretend her problems didn't exist.

We made a request for Statutory Assessment that was turned down

'bleat bleat.. not in LEA criteria.'

The SENDIST Tribunal kicked them into touch.

If the LEA don't play fair - then play dirty .  Get all parents to make
requests for assessment.  Let the LEA have the dirty job of saying who does
& doesn't deserve help.

Question for the learned colleagues out there. The Lea in which I work has
criteria for placinf pupils on the SEN list e.g. pupils in year 7 at level
3a or 3b are deemed Action and those at 3c and below are deemed action plus.
However, they are looking to shift the parameters/goal posts with action
plus shifting to 2b or below. With funding being directly hit does anyone
out there have similarly low levels proposed or currently in place?
