I have 4 children with dyslexia & High IQ (by EP report). I battled with the school for 3 years trying to get them include on the G&T register, but the co-ordinator said school policy was by teacher referral for 'talented' and CAT/SAT scores (never good for dyslexics) for 'gifted'. Talk about discrimination! I got 2 of them joined to MENSA - put the info inteh local newspaper and chased the school again. Nothing! If you can't go through- go around. I contacted NAGTY who were more than happy to accept them and said I could make independent applications. Instead I made the school G&T co-ordinator do it. That way it would be easier for the next child in the same position. Result? Whilst technically on the register, 18 months have gone by and they have not been invited to a single extra curricula activity or trip. To rub salt into the wound my daughter helps run the Saturday morning drama club for the Year 8 Drama G&T. This was the only way she could stay on now she is too old for the regular community drama group being a Year 9). This is beginning to smack of discrimination. >From: jeanld at fish.co.uk >To: "lk s" <lks1985 at hotmail.com> >Subject: Re: [senco-forum] What is dyspraxia >Date: Thu, 23 Nov 2006 19:20:28 -0000 (GMT) > >Glad to hear you have an ally.
