Smalls steps and repetition are great but they must be multi-sensory or they will not work for those with Dyslexia - they will however still work for those with general learning difficulties - a win /win situation. Ask the forum for practical examples for the teachers to try out. Try running a whole sentence together for the teachers to read - to demonstrate the impact of visual problems/dyslexia for readers. Talk for a few minutes turning your head away at key points so they miss the vital info (APD or hearing difficulties). Then ask some questions etc etc I am sure everyone out there has better examples. Once the teacher realises where learning is breaking down for some students it is much easier to offer ( and have them remember) some general or specific strategies. Remember your audience while likely to be auditory learners (like lectures from the front) will also include visual, kinaesthetic & mixed learners who prefer to see, feel or experience. Case histories and concrete examples will also help. Sharon Tringham A little while ago I asked for some help with preparing inset on differentiation for primary colleagues. I had a few very helpful replies ..... |
