Article: [senco-forum] Screening with LASS Secondary

Just about to start testing my year 7 and year 8s -
I look for the obvious 'undiagnosed' dyslexia profile -
And then look at the speed of processing - usually spelling and
reasoning - use your own judgement -
Then look for attention diffs i.e. both memory modules.
Then look for auditory diffs -
Then look for visual diffs i.e. spelling / reading / visual memory lower
than reasoning -

Then keep an eye on low reasoning - can throw the other 'significant
diffs'.

How does the above sound??

I also, check with our NFER spelling and VRT -

How does that sound?
Stuart

Subject: [senco-forum] Screening with LASS Secondary

Hi,

We are just about to start screening all our Year 7s for risk of
dyslexia
using LASS Secondary.

I would be interested in hearing how other schools have used the results
of
the screening, for example:

Do you go ahead with a diagnostic assessment with those students
identified
as at risk?

Do you inform subject teachers of students' strengths and weaknesses
such as
visual memory, auditory memory, general non verbal ability, phonological
difficulties, etc?

What sort of programmes have you put in place (or considered) as a
result of
screening? I'm thinking about memory booster, etc. but what else is
there?

How have you dealt with EAL students?

In short - what do I need to think about?

I'm really keen to hear some comments.

Thanks.
