>From my previous posting: "I also assess Word Processing Speed and dictation to scribe using the Patoss data and comment on effect on language to show which is most effective for the child." I don't do this on all children!!! Not appropriate - let alone not enough time!! Only those whose writing speed puts them in the bottom 40% and I am then assessing whether scribe or word processor is most effective for them - sorry realized on re-reading that it was unclear. CTOPP is. I have to say - due to limited time - I have worked out which tests which are most effective in showing up the weaknesses and provide the evidence I need in the least amount of time. WRAT 3 (or if buying new, I would prob use WRAT 4) for readers - Patoss writing test for Extra Timers and Scribes. This covers about 75% of my AA(Access Arrangement) pupils. You generally only need one piece of evidence to prove the need for a particular arrangement. Additional test data may be helpful - but I don't have time to do full assessments on every child. Background school screening is useful e.g NFER and CAT scores, If I'm still surprised/concerned by results or need additional evidence then, then I might try Edinburgh 4 for extra time - very few in my experience are slower in reading than writing. So generally, I will have already identified them using the Patoss writing test - however, it can be useful when wanting several access arrangements for one child. Then if I am still struggling to prove my case, I have just invested in GORT 4 which assesses reading speed, accuracy and fluency - so can be used for reader and extra time. I am waiting to see if this application is approved. The CTOPP is great diagnostic tool and good background information - but few people seem to suggest it can be used on its own for evidence - so the other tests have to be my priority and CTOPP is a luxury. I also assess Word Processing Speed and dictation to scribe using the Patoss data and comment on effect on language to show which is most effective for the child. Hope this helps. Very similar to WRAT 3 but more up to date - also sentence completion reading test. Also Edinburgh 4 reading, CTOPP and spoonerisms test from PhAB. ----Original Message---- From: lucass at loretto.com Date: 04-Oct-2006 15:27 To: <senco-forum at lists.becta.org.uk> Subj: [senco-forum] A Quick Help - pse Exam Access Arrangements - I am now going to train up to assess for exams access arrangements - yippee (school is paying - Dyslexia Action Course). However, my exams guru is not available next term - Questions: 1. What is the name of the organisation that does the Exam Access Arrangements Course please?? 2. What tests do other schools use (we usually use Ed Psych) for Exam Access Arrangements?? - I am going to purchase TOWRE & WRAT 3 and I use the PATOSS writing test. Appreciate a few quick answers - now where did my time go!
