Is your problem getting pupils to ask to use a reader? I have offered a reward to students in the past who use a reader starting with mock exams. These are the "tough/cool" kids by the time they reach Year 10/11 - so in a room with a few people available and having to make the "show" of asking for a reader - it is not what they would usually do. But I found a reward of lollipops (how sad am I?) worked, plus a really good talking to them all about it. . . . On the whole we find that 95%+ of our students do make use of their readers. Also some of my LSAs are really good at picking up on the subtle signs that someone needs a reader, rather than a big show of putting up a hand. That helps too. It is still not as often as I would like - for some pupils -so like you, I would love ideas from other people. Other arrangements are not a problem. Unfortunately I haven't finished submitting the forms for the students this year(partly because I have had so much difficulty getting students sent on time for testing as everyone always forgets.) However I have done the leaflet first as I am launching this at an Inset day I am running very soon. I hope to do another leaflet aimed at parents and students. It occurred to me that someone may have already done this. I would be very interested to see a copy to give me some more ideas. Anyone who would like a copy of my secondary teachers leaflet is very welcome. It's a four page booklet (folded lengthways ) made in Publisher. I have issued so many lists etc in bulletins in the past I thought I had better devise something that looks a bit different so it can stand out for the usual run of papers that everyone gets. I can but try ! Linda -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Version: 0.0.407 / Virus Database: 268.12.11/460 - Release Date: 01/10/2006 |
