We have been using it for (I think )4 years -current year 11's didn't know anything else - absolutely excellent - very loosely based on alpha to omega in terms of phonological order but ( just as I was always doing anyrate) puts in reading of eg suffixing patterns quite early. 3 of us within the department ( 5 in dyslexia centre- other 2 stilll follow straight alpha to omega) base our programme upon the running order in Nessy - separately the kids love the games ( graphics etc quite up to any game they may have at home) - my downside is that within the games its not possible ( as yet) to customize the word lists but no doubt that will come as with the recent new lauch of 19.99 games only cd for use at home this can be done. Kids ask 'can they go on Nessy' which is quite their favourite programme whereas I tend to 'put them' on word shark for example. If you print out ( costly and time consuming) the whole of the pdfs there is brilliant section on how to help at home, how to teach eg common words etc as well as worksheets and rules explained for total progression. However I've found that I need need to supplement these sheets and sometimes break inot smaller steps eg tch versus ch but it depends on the kid. Used for those having an hour daily, 5 hours a fortnight, 2 hours a fortnight and 1 hour a fortnight of withdrawal /intervention ie universally applicable and liked by kids from year 7 to 11 Sorry have been a little over enthusiastic but really believe it ( together with Lexia) has been one of our best buys over recent years Barbara ht -----Original Message----- From: senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk [mailto:senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk] On Behalf Of webmaster at aylesburyvale-sec.bucks.sch.uk Sent: 05 October 2006 08:50 To: senco-forum at lists.becta.org.uk Subject: [senco-forum] Nessy Learning I am currently considering introducing the 'Nessy Learning Programme' at the centre. Obviously this requires careful consideration as it will cost a few hundred pounds. Does anyone have any experience/views on this? http://www.nessy.co.uk/ It looks great to me (I recommend downloading the demo). I especially like the variety which is essential when working with disaffected young people. Thanks in advance.
