Article: [senco-forum] Possible dyslexia

We have about 40 foreign boys at any one time. I have a (very) dyspraxic Korean boy and a dyslexic Hong Kong chinese boy - first language Cantonese, and he found it impossible to learn Mandarin (and English for that matter) also a dyslexic French and a German boy. The only way for a diagnosis I found was for a full Ed Psych. The tests I have showed the same as yours - just showed up the verbal problems. It needs to be more subtle than that and look at the underlying problems. Mind you, there is a lot to be said for instinct and experience, if you think he has problems then he probably has. You just need the concrete evidence.

	Hello everyone

Anyone got any experience of testing then working with someone with some sort of language difficulty whose first language is not English. I've done the Dyslexia Screening Test but all it shows, of course, is that there is a problem in English and I suspect that he has learning difficulties as well.

We don't get many students who do not have English as a first language - this is only the fourth in eighteen years! I'd appreciate some advice from those who know much more about this than me.
