hi Amanda I've finally remembered to bring the EAL matrix home so: Assuming he was in Year 5 when he came to England and began to learn English to achieve CALP (Cognitive/Academic Language Proficiency in 7 tears he should have achieved NC level 2b by Year 7, 3b by year 8 and 4b by year 9. Where does your pupil fit? above or below this? I've done the Dyslexia Screening Test but all it shows, of course, is that there is a problem in English and I suspect that he has learning difficulties as well. We don't get many students who do not have English as a first language - this is only the fourth in eighteen years! I'd appreciate some advice from those who know much more about this than me.
