I am looking for reading materials to use with 'MLD' pupils who have not yet really started with reading but are over 11 years old. A standard reading scheme is not encouraging them as the content does not engage them, but would welocme any suggestions from the forum on schemes they have used successfully (or not!!!) to engage this group of youngsters. Their reading levels are still at the basic stage of single word and they need all the supporting cues they can get and hence the need for appropriate content (Biff and Chip won't do the trick!!). They are a mix of male and female and some have very focussed interest so non fiction texts would be helpful. Any contributions appreciated Thanks |
