Article: [senco-forum] gifted and talented

Good point. Do you put them on a register? I am confident that we look after all the artists, sportsmen and musicians brilliantly- all those depts are truly fantastic, it is the academic side where we don't necessarily pick up the top boys and deal with them properly - of course the obvious ones - but what about the less obvious ones - perhaps the very very bright dyslexic who cannot get it down on paper particularly well so the class teacher doesn't consider him to be gifted.

	Hi Ally,
We've always worked on the premis that G&T is not just about academic
levels - you may have a particularly gifted artist, musician or
	sportsperson, for example.
What we do with them, therefore, depends on their talent or gift, and often
involves finding outside experts to help them develop.

Half term soon - hope you all enjoy it.

How do you all identify potential gifted and talented students? Would
you need high CAT scores across all 3 reasoning levels or would two be
enough. And how high is high enough? 130+? Do you put them on a
register? Our intake is 11, 13 and 16yrs with the main one being 13
yrs. Having identified them what do you do then? We are only 400
strong, non-selective, with plenty of dyslexics etc but with some bright
boys at the top end of the scale. At the moment I think we just make
them do more GCSEs! Any ideas welcome.

	With kind regards
