Article: [senco-forum] Behaviour management

My favourite is never ask 'why?' as in 'why are you messing about in my lesson?' (Answer - because you are a c**p teacher) instead say 'what' as in 'what are you supposed to be doing right now?' (Answer - umm, writing an essay) - 'get on with it then' so then you have them!

This is from my sister who has lots more like this as she is in a behavioural unit in a city school - yell if you want more info and I will give you her email address.

	Hi Carole
I'm Head of the Early Years Behaviour Team. We use some of Bill's stuff but he'd be the first to say he doesn't deal with Early Years. The things we find most useful are ..
2/3 word level instructions (Name, task, please eg carole coat please)
Using Stop or Wait instead of No.
I need you to instead of can you .. will you

	  Anticipation
	  Distraction
Choices ... "You need to sit .. blue chair or red chair"
	  Pictorial timetable
Social story to explain definite change
	  Pictorial IEP's
Scripting for certain situations (asking for a turn, asking for help etc.)
Photographic rules, at child height, in area they apply to (One of Bill's daughters ideas)

	  Hope this is useful
	  Mags

PS Hannah Mortimers book Behaviour in the Early Years is really good, as is Maureen Garner Behavioural Difficulties (Featherstone Press). For really early stuff try Beyond Toddlerdom by Dr Christopher Green. Very, very good!

	  Hi all,

I realise I haven't posted in ages, but I've been very busy doing a foundation degree for teaching assistants. Our current module is on behaviour management and I was just wondering what your favourite behaviour management tips were. I have a huge reading list, but am currently reading Bill Rogers who seems to have a lot of good stuff to say on assertive discipline. I' ve been inserting some of his techniques into my own practice. Has anyone got any input of their own?
	Thanks,
	Carole in Cornwall.
