You need a wordprocessor that will speak each word as the child types
and you need a TA, parent or older pupil to work through the cards 1:1
with the child.
The cards have sentences grouped around a sound.
The child reads the first sentence on the card, with help if needed and
repeats it until word perfect.
Next the child types the sentence into the wp with speech feedback. No
help should be given at this stage, but the child can change any words
if s/he thinks s/he has made an error.
This is repeated for 4 sentences.
The helper asks the child if s/he can see the words with the common
pattern in the sentences
The text is moved off screen and the child types in as many of the words
with the pattern that s/he can remember - even children with poor memory
can usually remember at least half of them.
The helper can then give clues to the missing ones.

This exercise should be repeated for 20 minutes a day, working through
the cards - daily if possible, but several times a week

The gains can be enormous - reading/ spelling / memory / improved
concentration even with tasks away from the computer.
It is demanding in support time but has huge spinoff in improving
skills and raising self confidence

Not sure what the cds are - we did not have them when we used the
scheme, but they may be text files to reprint cards that go missing?
Hope that helps?

My school has recently bought this resource. After a term it has
been loaded on the server, but I cannot work out how to use it. I am
probably being very dense, but I have too much to do at the beginning
of term to play around with it. I have various cards, books and cds,
but cannot find the 'idiots guide'.
Please could someone help me............and let me know their opinion
of it

many thanks
