H Brendan, Emma and everyone As far as I know, each LA has their own version of the points mentioned here. These look very like what my LA has in place as a generic job description but I also know local schools have interpreted what certain things mean in different ways and paid TAs differently. Amanda Secondary SENCO Cornwall KngBrndn at aol.com wrote: Hi Emma -- I had no idea myself -- but out of curiosity I went to teacher net -- this led me to Local Government Employers (LGE) site. I then clicked Education -- and in this site clicked Teaching Assistants PDF. This is exactly what you want for all levels of assistants, including the also essential to know -- job roles and responsibilities -- useful for a job description. I suggest you get to that PDF and print it off. The suggested qualifications for a Level 1 teacher are: Experience: Working and caring for children of relevant age. Qualifications: Good literacy/numeracy skills; Completion of DfES TA Induction Course; Participation in development programmes and training opportunities. Knowledge and Skills: Ability in First Aid; Use of basic computer, video, photocopier equipment; Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities and the applicants understanding of own position within the school team. Hope this helps -- Brendan Amanda Secondary SENCO Cornwall |
