Thanks, Brendan. Reminds me of a line from a Victoria Wood play, when a grumpy old lady, played by Thora Hird, says "In my day we didn't have dyslexia; we had children sat at the back of the room doing raffia." If the "deaf spot" is real, perhaps we'd better not make the children aware of it as the smarter ones will be claiming they didn't hear because they were in that bit of the room - which will finish up being every square inch of the classroom! I think it's getting to me already, after only three days back in school!
