In a message dated 06/09/2006 17:09:40 GMT Standard Time, the.sampsons.111 at virgin.net writes: My school has recently bought this resource. After a term it has been loaded on the server, but I cannot work out how to use it. I am probably being very dense, but I have too much to do at the beginning of term to play around with it. I have various cards, books and cds, but cannot find the 'idiots guide'. Please could someone help me............and let me know their opinion of it Sue Commercial interest declared. Acceleread Accelewrite (ARAW) used to be in book form with the cards attached. At reprint it was decided by the publishers to put the materials on to a cd rom and supply with the cards. The disadvantage is that you have to print off the relevant parts of the manual - instructions, record sheets etc. The advantage is that a school can print as many copies as they wish for use withing their own school. The cd is effectively a "site license book". We developed ARAW around talking word processors. If your computer talks ARAW is the "what to do with it now it talks to help children to develop literacy skills". Talking word processors are in most schools - Clicker, Textease, WriteOutloud to name a few. There have been many independent evaluations and the indications are an average reading increase of 10 months and spelling 6 months after 6 hours work over 4 weeks. The highest rise in reading has been 53 months. Large increases in listening skills (whatever they are!!) have also been reported. More details and copies of ARAW are available from Talking Systems 01392 211184 _Talksystem at aol.com_ (mailto:Talksystem at aol.com) Martin Martin Miles Educational Psychologist |
