Article: [senco-forum] Content of postings/teacher training/teaching assistants

Some interesting messages over the past few days!

First, I would like to remind anyone who is tired of
repetition that posts to this forum usually have a
title, enabling us all to ignore or delete (the
wonders of technology!). As with most other forums,
topics are updated and recycled as new members join or
current events dictate, so for any one person to say
_they_ have had enough strikes me as quite arrogant.

My second point is about teacher training. Someone
(Rik?) mentioned sucking eggs. My recent experiences
as a parent, and observer of teaching friends and
others, is that ALL potential teachers should be
screened for basic common sense! We have encountered
some jaw-droppingly dim teaching staff since our son
started school two years ago, people who are
presumably well qualified for their posts but who have
poor social skills and lack basic common sense. Our
son's reception teachers (not-so-affectionately known
in our household as "that pair of bobble-heads")
worried us so much we spoke to the head teacher and
almost begged for better communication. The aftermath
of _that_ request is still being felt, almost two
years later.
In stark contrast, every teaching assistant we have
encountered has been sensible and balanced and has
oozed common sense. Is this something that can only
come from experience or, dare I suggest it, age?

June
