Ruth Miskin Literacy books? Published by Oxford. A graded scheme of about
10 levels with 10 plus titles each. Each book only includes what has been
pre-taught in synthetic phonics and high frequency non-phonetic words (eg
said). There are suggestions for discussion at the front of each book and a
list of words to discuss for vocabulary. The hf non-phonetic words are in
red so the kids know which words they can decode and which ones they have to
know. There are comprehension ideas at the back plus a grid of words for
speed reading. It is the best scheme I have ever seen for beginning
readers.

At Kobi Nazrul primary school, where RM was head, they pull all students,
regardless of year group, who do not have basic decoding skills and they are
taught in small groups which are constantly reviewed for learning progress.
In a high immigrant area their literacy results are very strong.

Hello all, hope this message gets through.
Am a newish senco in large primary school. We used to use fuzzbuzz as
part of our additional literacy support, but I understand this is now
being phased out. I was wondering what colleagues thought was a useful
alternative? Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris Jessup
