Hi Judith

So sorry about your husband - and so cross about NHS wastage too.

We had exactly the same kind of experiences in our family. It's easy to access support for people they tell us - there are assessment strategies in place. In practice it just doesn't happen at the speed people need.

How true re health service- my husband died last week-
The doctor arrived Monday and said he should be palliative ward but as no
beds available could he stay at home and they would provide a 24hr morphine
drip- of course I said yes
a district nurse would come sometime during day to see if needed anything
extra as my husband was so ill couldn't even be washed or bear to be touched
as the cancer charged through the bones and skin.
and he died 2 days later.
BUT before that I had to get a tri walker from e bay (99p) p& p £15- as NHS
only have 3 and they were all out on loan this had been 2 weeks earlier
I bought a super duper Swedish type shower chair commode- sadly only used
once- as I was told it would be months before I could get one from
hospital.
Now they did give a huge walking frame they want me to take back
To the storage depot miles away if want can just leave it outside if arrive
when shut!

And an air pressure cushion- these have life of 1 yr- they are able to be
used much longer but some ruling says MAY not be able to continue pumping
up after a year so theya re thrown away-
£60 a timebut apart from that I have LOADS of medicine and it will all be
thrown away-
I went to chemist and explained I wouldn't want to take the repeat
prescription of 8 items-
And was told might as well
As his name on box they can't be reused albeit unopened and not taken out of
shop!
The wasteage is a crime there is no other word for it-
But as Ruth says go for it- enjoy and do what you can now-
