I completed my department SEF last term. I say 'completed' but actually it needs regular up dates. It was useful for identifying priorities for development within the department and also for showing us what we do well, but it did take a long time to complete - about 70 hours!! which won't be very reassuring. We did, however, do this instead of subject evaluation and the development plan grew out of it. One thing which the head suggested that OFSTED would be looking at was evidence of how we perform in relation to similar schools and analysis of other data - how many at each stage of the CoP? How many GCSE passes? and it was this collection of data that took the time. I'm also updating it every few weeks so that it stays current. Lots of extra work I'm afraid!! All HoDs are competing this and it seems I do so too even though I'm not "subject" specific. Has anyone completed anything like this and would be willing to share ideas. I'm filled in parts but am getting stuck. My line manager is helpful and has gone through it with me but I'm very bemused!!!! Lorraine |
