Dear Laurie,
I thought GORT measured reading aloud rather than silent reading?
From memory,I think the JCQ access arrangements book specifies silent reading of a contiuous prose passage. As I recall it asks for a reading rate - which I find really annoying when non-EPs don't seem to have access to this sort of data.
The pupils I teach follow a spoken english course and as a result often read aloud much better than the norm.

I've used GORT4 before and it's been accepted by the JCQ.

What evidence are you trying to acquire - evidence for a reader or for extra
time?

Subject: [senco-forum] Tests for Reading Speed
Hi,
Can anyone suggest a reading speed/comprehension test suitable for using for
GCSE Access Arrangements?
I have always used the Edinburgh 4 test for this section on the form.
However, for a poor reader it is such a daunting task as there is so much
reading involved. I would be interested to hear what other teachers use and
if these tests are acceptable to the exam boards.
Thanks,
Clare
