In a word NO!! It's not reasonable.
When you say teaching do you mean whole class mainstream or small special
needs groups and individual? Even if this is what you mean I don't see how
you can possibly carry out the role of SENCO in 7/25 periods.
For a start off with 55 statements that's nearly 2 a week so including
paperwork you could say that that's 220 hours a year without anything else.
Then there's SAP reviews and SA reviews and monitoring and managing the TAs
and teachers, and Access Arrangements and writing and updating your
SEf...and monitoring differentiation by classroom teachers and..regular
meetings with your educational psychologist and the LA behaviour and
learning support teams and ... .. and..erm....shall I carry on?
No it's not reasonable!
Chris, Secondary SENCO who's currently in the process of writing the
timetable.... 3 periods a week mainstream English ....3 periods small group
work and 1 period individual work with a Statemented pupil and 2 periods of
support so far.....

I'm a SENCO at a mainstream, secondary, LEA school. I've been told that I
need to teach for three quarters of my time (18 lessons out of 25) .

This means I have just 7 hours of lesson time to carry out the SENCO role.

We have 55 with statements, 150 on school action plus and I have 2 teachers
plus 8 TA's to manage. We also have many students who need to learn english

and one of the teachers manages this function.

How does this compare with your experience and do you think it's reasonable.

Steve
