Article: [senco-forum] access arrangements

Actually you should be assessing at beginning of Year 10 and then allowing
the pupils to practise their access arrangements in their mocks and for
their coursework .

>>Access Arrangements cover the entire course and should be applied for as
early
as possible to ensure that appropriate specifications are chosen.
Arrangements
must be approved before an examination or assessment and are intended to
allow attainment to be demonstrated.>> See chapter 1.1 of JCQ regs

This doesn't mean that you may not be adding to your list later if new
information comes to light. In the letter I send home to parents I always
say that the use of AAs will be monitored and if not being used would be
considered inappropriate.
If a pupil is awarded a scribe and it is not used in an exam, you still have
to attach a scribe cover sheet and say no scribe was used. Other than that,
I don't think they will ever know exactly who used what in each exam. Their
system is not exact enough - certainly at the moment.

Surely it can't be right that we tell boards about extra time NOW.
I have see all my new year 11s who might be entitled but a couple of them
I
need more information about because my own assessments are borderline. We
will reach the right allocation in the end but it's a process requiring
evidence from teachers and by observing how they cope with mocks etc. If I
send in
the names of all of them now, and we change our minds later, what will
happen?
What if someone we've missed comes in with a private EP assessment saying
they need extra time? If the responsibility for deciding who needs extra
time
and how much rests with the school, surely they should also be able to
decide
the best time to do that?
