I have had a horrible afternoon! During a discussion on the difficulties of taking a TA from one set of needy children to support a child at risk of permanent exclusion I managed to upset our EP such that she announced she was taking a break and left the room for 5 minutes. I of course took it personally, so when she came back I ended up leaving to go and howl in the toilets!(Very professional.) She assured me that it was not personal, but rather the difficulties posed by working with devolved funding. I think my EP comes with all the angst from other schools and unloads it one me, without really listening to what I'm saying. We always seem to end up arguing about Statementing, and the EPs role. This is not an argument I want to have, I just want to do the best for each child in the school. Does anybody else find working with EPs this difficult? The EP at my previous school had strong views on the meaning of inclusion and upset number of staff to such an extent that they refused to work with her! some of the staff concerned were struggling to meet the needs of SEN children in their class but surely the job of an EP is to work with staff ,not antagonise them? Anyone out there got suggestions on how to cope more professionally next time? K |
