[senco-forum] skimming and scanning

Dear all,
        I have been asking a few of my pupils to look for details in a piece of text and am really worried by their lack of higher order reading skills like skimming and scanning.
        I have Tony Buzan's 'Speed Reading' book (somewhere) does anyone have any other books to recommend or better still any techniques/activities to use to practise these sorts of skills?
     I'm dealing with mainly dyslexic pupils, mainly secondary but some KS 2 pupils also.
