Article: [senco-forum] Disability Equality Duty

Dear all
It is my understanding that the duty to write a Disability Equality Scheme
only applies to 'public bodies'. Independent schools do not fall into this
category and, although they must show due regard to the DDA, they do not
have to produce a scheme.
Best wishes

Dear Chris,
My understanding is that this applies to all secondary schools now, and
primaries later this year, whether independent or maintained. There is some
help here:

and guidance here:

Hope that helps,
Mary

As a new SENCO at an independent secondary school this year, there have
been
many things to get to grip with! Can anyone confirm whether independent
schools are also required to produce a Disibility Equality Scheme or is it
just
schools within the state sector at the moment.
thanks
Chris
