Dear all It is my understanding that the duty to write a Disability Equality Scheme only applies to 'public bodies'. Independent schools do not fall into this category and, although they must show due regard to the DDA, they do not have to produce a scheme. There is some help here: http://www.nottinghamschools.co.uk/eduweb/schools/schools-template.aspx?id=1 346 and guidance here: http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/wholeschool/sen/disabilityandthedda/guidancedis abilityequalityinschools/ Hope that helps, Mary -----Original Message----- From: senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk [mailto:senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk] On Behalf Of Chrisgier at aol.com Sent: 10 April 2007 10:09 To: senco-forum at lists.becta.org.uk Subject: [senco-forum] Disability Equality Duty As a new SENCO at an independent secondary school this year, there have been many things to get to grip with! Can anyone confirm whether independent schools are also required to produce a Disibility Equality Scheme or is it just schools within the state sector at the moment. thanks Chris |
