Aly wrote: I would love to see SENCOs and other professionals stop covering for those that do this, because they are ACCOUNTABLE too. Hiding behind being stressed, busy, not trained in SEN etc. is a poor excuse when a child's education is in the toilet. Really? If we SENCO's did that what do you surpose would happen? In a very short time the Head would be inundated with complaints that the school was failing to meet their child's needs (probably supported by Parent Partnership and other charitable organisations). The SENCO would be required to answer for the lack of support - not the class teacher as it is our responsibility to co-ordinate SEN provision. Most importantly the child would suffer for the lack of support, differentiation etc. No i'm not suggesting we do nothing - but we've been banging our heads against this particular brick wall for many many years. And at the end of the day they are our colleagues and we have to work with them for years to come. Change does not come easily or quickly. Richard |
