[SENco-forum] Dyslexia

I don't read the newspapers or journals much -- so didn't know much about Ms Burchill -- and I missd the Radio 4 prog. I've glanced through a Wikipaedia profile of her -- and she appears to be a purposefully contradictory character. Pro Stalinist supporter of M Thatcher?

Seems to be now having to work hard to remain a "controversial journalist who makes 'surprising' comments". Her 2 children have been brought up by their dads -- so she doesn't seem to have much experience of child rearing -- let alone one's with SEN. So she's best ignored when it comes to education. Leave the dated punk to her 'anti-middle class' rants -- no one's listening to her it seems to me -- Brendan King

I too emailed the BBC asking if they are going to ask for an apology
from Ms
Burchill.  It takes up to 10 days for a reply so I phoned as well and
they
said they have had a number of complaints both yesterday & today.

What is there to discuss?  Ignorance comes in all shapes and sizes.  It
is
irritating when many people work for a long time to improve peoples
beliefs
or understanding on a subject only to have it undermined by a silly
comment.
The redeeming feature is that she appears to be renowned for making
provocative and crass generalisations and therefore cannot be taken too
seriously. The label 'stupid' should not be used at all, but if it were,
Radio 4 listeners can use their own judgement at to where it might be
attached.

I have not looked at my E-mails for a couple of days. However I am
surprised not to see any comment on the Radio 4 interview with Julie
Burchill of yesterday and her disparaging, if not discussing comments
she made about dyslexics and the middle classes. Has anyone got a
comment or are we all 'rising above' comment.
