Article: [senco-forum] APD readers

Hi Martin

Most have APD can read per se

The main problem is processing large volumes or quantities of language,
either auditory (verbal) OR Visual Notation of Auditory (Text)
The comfort size or chunk that can be easily processed depends on the
type(S) of Auditory Processing Disorder the individual APD is affected by
and the degree of severity of each type, that makes up the individuals
Auditory Processing Disorder Package.
It has been observed by APD professionals in the USA that only 40% of those
who have been diagnosed as having APD only have just APD; the other 60% have
APD co-morbid with a wide range of other Invisible Disabilities that may go
to make a wide variety of individual co-morbid disability packages.

The main problem APDS have with processing language is with new and or
unfamiliar words, variations in accent, Processing rapid speech (this will
vary according the APD affects the ability to process the microsecond gaps
between sounds), learning new tasks concepts especially when the instruction
is auditory based, with little either Kinaesthetic or Visually based
information to support the new instructions.

Coping with APD is about being able to best guessing to fill in the
information processing gaps using whatever alternative sensory skills you
are able to utilise or develop to overcome your auditory processing deficit.
And these coping skills will vary according to each individuals degree of
deficit, their natural learning style(s), adopted learning styles, and the
levels of support they receive.

Not too long I hope

Best wishes
