Hi Chris We had Ofsted just last week so this is what happened to me: I had a meeting with an Inspector with my line manager. I'm pretty sure that the number of pupils on the SEN register in my school is just under 20%. If you know why your school has fewer, make sure you tell the Inspector that. There is no hard and fast rule about 20%. I don't have an 'Inclusion Register' - we have SEN and G&T separate registers, though a few appear on both. Maybe your 'Inclusion Register' does have 20% of pupils on it. I put anyone who has support which is 'additonal to and different from' others on the SEN Register at School Action. I spent time with the Inspector showing how pupils with SEN are tracked and monitored. I also took advice from Janice and wrote a list of all the things I do which I gave to the Inspector at the start of our meeting. She saw me in person on Wednesday then caught me again on Thursday with another couple of questions. Let me know if the list would help. I have been informed by my head today that the percentage of children on my SEN register is too low and should be around 20%. Lead inspector has passed this comment in pre inspection phone-call. I also have an inclusion register (being Inclusion Manger) that is far larger, containing G&T, EAL, under-achievers that are part of wave 2 interventions etc. Help!! Any advice on how to deal with this would be much appreciated. My Ed Psych, at planning meetings has never passed comment. Many thanks Amanda Secondary SENCO Cornwall |
