| Article: [senco-forum] HLTA and cover supervisors - an update | |
|
I mentioned in a previous e-mail that our Head of Science is sending a cover supervisor on the HLTA training. I have been in contact with the TA training adviser and HLTA organiser at the LEA and they say:- 1) Cover supervisors cannot qualify as HLTA because they are not involved in children's learning - a change to their job description would be required. They would not be able to fulfil the 29 criteria. 2) considerable input would be required from the SENCO 3) HLTA trainees should be working at least 50% of their time in the science/maths departments. I know nothing will change in my school but I have put up a fight on behalf of my TAs and also on behalf of the pupils for whom I struggle to get enough TA hours. I have also heard of another school where a science lab technician is going to do the HLTA training. £1000 per candidate is coming in to schools and so these things will happen as it won't cost the school anything.
