Article: [senco-forum] Pilot research project

Some time ago, I announced my intention to put in place, a pilot project into the desirability of launching a full scale nationl research project into the desirability of proactively priming sight vocabulary as a means of resolving non specific reading difficulties among older pupils. The results of this limited project have shown on average, a doubling of the rate of reading skill acquisition over the one term period of the pilot.

As a consequence of these very encouraging results, I intend to launch a full scale project in September, using groups of Year 6 pupils not expected to achieve Level 4 in reading in the 2008 Key Stage 2 tests. I anitcipate the participation of at least one thousand children from more than eighty schools and will be circulating LEA to this effect within the next few weeks.

What is novel about this strategy is that it involves neither phonics (synthetic or analytic) nor text reading but relies solely on proactively priming sight vocabulary with words containing all of the grapheme/phoneme correspondences.
