Hi Eddie,

Surely in order to have totally objecvtive results,
all the children have to have their reading ages
tested with the same tests? You cannot average
something not already on the same scale.

And if there is no formal teaching, do you mean that
the children will just absorb the "whatever it is you
aren't teaching them" by osmosis? 

If so is there any need for this approach at all? Your
approach imnplies that if we just let older children
look at books and hey presto they can read by some
innate intellect? 

I agree for some children apparent automaticity is
there - but those are the good readers, not the older
ones that struggle. If they were able to absorb the
ability to read, surely they would have done so at an
early age.
