Article: [senco-forum] Glue Ear

Hello
As a parent 15 years ago, I was told that the earlier the intervention the better for any hearing loss. Things may have moved on now, but the consultant at that time felt that our son (aged 2) was very nearly out of the window for picking up and being able to articulate sounds correctly. Grommets were a real success and his speech is fine. I had hearing loss at a time, when I suspect 'glue ear' was unknown as a term, antibiotics were relatively rarely prescribed and my eardrums burst on more than one occasion. And despite many years of SALT, I do still lisp and cannot hear certain phonemes. A colleague of mine picked this up when she used me as a guinea pig for assessment using the CTOPP and it was a revelation to me. I would really encourage any parent to get their child specialist help very early on.
