You are generally correct Alex -- but it may depend on the severity of the dyslexia and its effect. The guidance to schools, issued by the DRC, includes as an example of the broad definitions of disability – ‘severe dyslexia’. Note that having a statement does not mean that the child comes within the Act’s definition of disability – nor does not having a statement mean that the child does not have a disability within the Act’s definitions. Though many such disabled children may also have a statement.  The giudance to schools doc is downloadable from the DRC site -- now incorporated into the Equalities Commission -- but if you google drc uk you'll get there. Dear All         It is my understanding that all pupils with a current diagnosis of  dyslexia are considered as having a disability by the DDA for the  purposes of examination access arrangements and any discrimination at  school. We don't call them disabled at school but I think we need to be  clear about this at school. This is not a view shared by all here! Am I  correct in thinking this or am I overreacting?
