Article: [senco-forum] targets for annual review - professional development

My most useful whole school professional development was SEN friendly
classrooms - did it for a term with departmental reps - and then had to see
a classroom - or more than one - depending on the department that developed
appropriately in each dept.

Also moving to coursework - SEN friendly coursework guides - again
departmental reps - who each produced a new GCSE - and then Yr 9 guide.

Working with each dept to get proper - subject specific word lists for every
unit - again we had one member of each dept - and once you had been the sen
person on one task it was time for another person to get a large SEN input.

And what happened from these things?

It was also prof development for others - AND staff found out that was was
good for SEN was good for an awful lot of other people too.

How about some nice SEN visits for you - to other schools - to your pyramid
- or whatever - or a course - or a SENCo conference - Fil Cames are
outstandingly good - and then you could cascade all that back into school.

Find something enjoyable that grabs you - too much of prof development is
boring at times - when I think of what I have been offered over the years.

Regards

Ruth

Subject: [senco-forum] targets for annual review - professional development

The Head is currently doing my annual review -
part of UPS progression -
targets for learning are easy enough - raise writing levels etc -
and for SEN is easy - find out about Asperger's and write a guide for staff.

It's the 'professional development' one I am stuck on - ast year it was
learn about CBT but this year - what could i do for teh department or the
whole school -
what do you do ?
Cheers
