Hi Sharon,
"For example when a friend took her son for an eye
test the optometrist told
her she suspected a significant level of hearing loss.
It was an eye
opener- but she was right. The doctor found 60% of
hearing loss and more
bizarrely still this was found to be caused by a
sensitivity to apples."
Detection, suggestion and recommendation are far
removed from diagnosis
without even referring on to a specialist. I suspect -
and would hope- that the friend had the hearing loss
diagnosed by a specialist in that field. The people of
whom I spoke are diagnosing in isolation without
referral or consultation with hearing specialists or
specialists in APD, and prescribing therapies which
may be at best useless and at worst dangerous, which
is an entirely different ballgame.
As for the apples I know lactose intolerance can make
glue ear worse....maybe other such intolerances can
have the same effect.
Best wishes,
Aly
