Are these children actually on your SEN list at School Action, or are they simply receiving support without being listed (what we always termed the "monitoring" or "worry" list - ie they did not quite meet the requirements for SA, but were not making expected progress, so we put in extra help and reviewed progress after a few weeks - some were fine, others moved to SA)? For PLASC, those not at SA were not needed. Those as you describe who were at SA were put in the MLD category, which was not without confusion as MLD used to be Moderate Learning Difficulties, but now seems to incorporate Mild as well! I hope that this is of some use. The basic problem is that terminology and categories keep changing, at least as far as admin is concerned. Those of us actually teaching the children just get on with it and do what they need! Jean I've read all the messages on SpLD etc. and still am not quite sure about > certain children. I don't know what PLASC stands for but I do know its a > sort of census on categories of children that the LEA use. To me > SpLD is just that - a specific difficulty.
