Article: Sorry - But/Re: [senco-forum] was; Here we go...now How to diistribute resources fairly (long)

I've been through the complete school system
as concerned - then over-anxious - then irate
parent. I can look back at....
from playgroup and speech therapy
to VI form and the need for extra time provision.

>>>The issue of distribution of a finite<<<
>>> amount of resources <<<

Point taken, but often no cash is involved
...simple acceptance is often enough. Believe me...
*that* still not universal - sencoforum is not typical -
And unmet need is acceptable?

>>>(one can)....justify the direction of this<<<
>>> support at those with SEN <<<
>>>(and more recently those who are G&T) <<<

Mmnnn ..... & G&T Dyslexics? I alternately laughed
 and cried
and conducted a mighty lonely campaign feeling
guilty as anything because those with more need
 didn't have my resources.
That's why I helped others..."an agitator"
conducting
"harrassment".... I did feel loved at the tail end of
 a nervous breakdown, believe me.

>>>So are high IQ dyslexic children<<<
>>> getting their share?  -<<<

No, in stark fairness terms. Those not teacher
identifiable, *definitely not* - not without a
parent rich enough to afford an independent
 psychologist. Then we're cheats.

My heart goes out to G&T dyslexics .....
it is a soul
destroying journey through education for
student and parent if they were not as
lucky and/or as knowledgeable as
I had to become.... a very frightened
dad wanting help not opprobrium
from the very folk who should have been
telling me what would be done and not
what could be done. (& full marks to the
High School Senco who accepted and used
the Independent EP reports we provided.)

There is a tranche of students out there
 whom everyone is missing
.... dyslexic at Uni level complete with DSA is
just not acceptable finite resources or no.

I've just started teaching (yep, the hated private
tutor - that's me now) a little one whose Mum
expresses the same kind of thoughts ... thank
goodness there still are parents who will moan and complain
....I hated being on the receiving end in my teaching days
just like you: been there, done that, got the tee shirt
too.

It's a never ending argument, isn't it?

Oh, Happy New Year to everyone ... John
