Article: [senco-forum] PRUs and new regs

As with Chris -- I've even supported cases where the child was out of school for 3 years -- with no form of support or tutoring whatsoever. I won't name the LA -- it was found against by the LA Ombudsman and compensation ordered -- but it is a very large one. Brendan.

Just to reinforce this with facts that show that the picture is even bleaker. I've supported several who have been out of school for more than a year -- these are all pupils with SEN.

Too little is known about the plight of such pupils. Do some schools exclude too readily thinking that there is some ideal school somewhere which would accommodate the child much better than they can? But often there isn't, and a vulnerable child ends up in limbo, especially if there isn't a suitable PRU place. And of course good as many PRUs are, they are not special schools with teachers specialising in the difficulties the child has.
