I had experience similar to Chris a few years ago with Successmaker. I'm dismayed that bad practice is still going on. To be effective, it must be timetabled and part of a monitored scheme of work for targetted students. Very expensive but don't dismiss it out of hand. ----- Original Message ----- From: "chris white" <chris19251 at blueyonder.co.uk> To: <senco-forum at lists.becta.org.uk> Sent: Thursday, February 01, 2007 5:56 PM Subject: RE: [senco-forum] Successmaker > Yes Successmaker is overpriced. > For pupils with very weak literacy skills it's definitely not the > best > option. > However, for those pupils who need that bit of an extra push it can > work. 12 > months to 2 years is the maximum time scale I recommend using it > with a > pupil. > It should be used with other resources and the inbuilt reporting > system used > on a regular basis to identify areas of weakness. > The danger is that large-ish groups of pupils are sat down in a > computer > room to 'just get on with it' - a waste of time!
