However - The maths programme is still one of the best that I have ever seen - and if it is properly managed an awful lot of children will make very good progress using it - Maths Concepts and Skills is the one I really like - and what it will do to those who are good at maths is accelerate their progress very speedily. I used to use it at my last maintained school - but it is not specifically an SEN tool although bits of it work very well for certain specific students and the maths is one of these. The spelling programme for example has no rhyme or reason to it - and would certainly not fit into the NC easily. The Maths programme also has the additional benefit of being able to set homework (with an answer sheet for you) for each individual student. It will indicate what needs to be taught - check for progress in this area - and remove what needs to be revisited by a teacher. And a weekly check will quickly tell you what you have to do - I certainly liked the management system. It was also used - very effectively by a highly gifted child - well in advance of her chronological age in all areas but particularly Maths - and provided her with appropriate material well in advance of what her lower school could provide. I regard the English programmes as dire. Why - with a wealth of wonderful literature sources to read - does the US with Successmaker and SRA in particular use such dross for their prose passages?
