Article: [senco-forum] Successmaker

For our 6.05- readers up to around 11 we've found lexia and advanced lexia
brilliant -1500+ secondary so we are putting 60-70 pupils at least on lexia
at varying levels on 5 days a fortnight - they do lexia whilst I teach
another kid in the group with me just keeping a weather eye on what they're
doing -seems to work well and used in tandem with toe by toe or phonic code
cracker ( depends on kid I normally start with toe by toe and for a few
weaker ones move over to phonic code cracker when the going gets too tough)
definitely makes for good progress in reading both decoding and
comprehension as well as pupils picking up on some spelling ( I was really
surprised to find one of my pupils could spell face mice fence etc then she
told me she'd learnt them from Lexia)
Kids like the ladders ( bar charts effectively) which measure their
progress thro each section (4 or5) of a level - and I award merits for
completed ladders ( works out fairly as the weaker kids come more often so
get more practice )

I have had the experience of using Successmaker, but found it a little
lacking in motivation for pupils. We are looking to either update or replace
it. I am looking at Lexia Reading programme - does anyone have any
experience of this? Regards, Jackie
