> As a support teacher, I have been asked to do some work in a high school with individual depts. looking at dyslexia friendly issues relating to each subject area.< I applaud this step. Too often SEN issues are treated too generically at secondary school level and as a result they are never truly embedded in subject departments. The upshot can be that such issues continue to be regarded as the purview of the SEN department alone. Make sure that each department is given a copy of its subject-specific "Planning, teaching and assessing the curriculum for pupils with learning difficulties" document on learning difficulties, downloadable from: http://www.nc.uk.net/ld/ David Fulton Publishers also have some excellent books on the teaching of individual school subjects to those with specific learning difficulties. I have posted on my website SEN reading lists for most National Curriculum subjects: http://www.specialeducationalneeds.com/InclusiveCurricula/biblio.htm Each of these documents has a SpLD section with online and print subject-specific references. Many of the references are to books and articles written by subject specialists with an expertise in SEN, so your subject departments are likelier to develop a greater sense of "ownership" of the practical ideas and strategies recommended. In the case of the MFL bibliography, you will find almost 500 references to foreign language learners with SpLD! Hope this helps.
