Hilary -- I've always understood that the post of SENCo only occured in mainstream. All children in Special Schools have special educational needs, so all teachers in special schools have similar responsibilities for SEN delivery and coordination. And the management will be particularly concerned with the coordination. The only need for having a SENCo, is when the SEN children are a minority cohort, and there is a need for a focussed organiastional set of strategies to ensure they a fully provided for, and not overlooked of under-resourced, in a setting where their is a dearth of expertise and understanding/empathy of the needs of SEN children. I don't think the role is always clear in such settings. Thanks. Hilary |
