Hi Maggie, The practical strategies we have here for schools and colleges are applicable to pupils with dyslexia www.lacewingmultimedia.com/APD.htm Many of these strategies are based on strategies used in the resource based where I used to work supporting pupils with severe dyslexia, where incidentally I first noticed the symptome of APD that my son was later diagnosed with and I would say most of the dyslexics there exhibited many of the symptoms of APD which I would suspect as being the cause of their dyslexia, some having additional visual processing problems, which can exist uin addition to Irlen syndrome, and can also be addressed in practical terms by adapting to the needs of those difficulties listed here. 1. http://www.ncld.org/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=474 2. http://www.ldonline.org/article/6390 3. http://www.irlen.org.uk/ I would agree that subject specific adaptations and key words lists are also vital, as are pictorial timetables and any other organisational skills and short term memory strategies needed, avoidance of dictation and copying - and word processing wherever aplicable. Hope this helps. Best wishes, Aly Chair Auditory Processing Disorder in the UK/APDUK www.lacewingmultimedia.com/APD.htm www.apduk.org |
