| Article: [senco-forum] fabulous forum | |

I value the forum highly in all its diversity - it is a truly fabulous way to share expertise and I have benefited greatly from the kindness of members sharing their knowledge. Sitting out here in the desert can be a professionally isolating experience... and was before the forum. Martin Turner, co-author of Dyslexia Guidance, visits Dubai to carry out psychological assessments. Since I joined the forum he has been hard pushed to keep me abreast of things as the forum generally gets there first! Martin Miles also came over to carry out training for Acceleread Accelewrite - I never would have known of Martin Miles' work had I not "met" him on the forum. We have been using his system ever since and numerous children have done well as a result. Those who have not responded as expected have stood out like sore thumbs and several been assessed for and found to be dyslexic. My contact with Ian Litterick's company has been fantastically helpful - even went on a day's course with iansyst to update my IT knowledge after forum communication. The forum has also been used to forward questions from my colleagues - and information shared back with them (our primary school has 1000 on roll so we are a big staff). I often refer to how useful the forum is when speaking to parents and professionals. Mails not directly relevant to me can be forwarded to the staff who are interested in them - our Head of ICT, for example, greatly appreciates such sharing. I would not change a thing about the forum. And pruning what is not relevant to our day jobs is so easy with that delete button. Philippa |
