[senco-forum] Toe by Toe/ Word Hornet/Wasp

Sounds like today wasn't a good day.

I too believe 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' but 'it' sometimes works 
better for a change of oil!!

I haven't had the same success with Toe by Toe that you and many of the 
others have - I've tried using it twice, once on EP recommendation and once 
as an 'OK - let's see if this will work!'  Neither lasted very long 
............... but the second child is now 'moving' using Word Hornet.

Hornet and Wasp were both written by Harry Cowling and follow the same 
pattern as Toe by Toe but link letter formation, articulation and spelling 
with reading. The five children I have used it with had similar difficulties 
in that, amongst other things, they confused short vowel sounds /a/, /e/ and 
/u/. After an average of about 45 mins input each week they are through the 
pain barrier of big style failure  and experiencing success. They report 
instances when they've worked words out for themselves in class and most of 
their class teachers report improvement in writing, spelling and attitude.

Although the books are quite expensive (£10 and £15 I think) , like Toe by 
Toe each child has his own book, they have the advantage that they can be 
used by anyone of any age.

It may be worth having a look at these - although T by T is working it may 
be possible to make the method work better!
