Oh to read something sometime that says "my child has adhd and is on medication and it has been fantastic". It is always so negative. I'm an Ed Psych and my child has ADHd, is on slow release Ritalin and it has changed his life. I wish I had done it earlier. There have been no side effects other than reduced appetite at lunchtime - but he eats well at other times. It is the best thing we have ever done. I regularly talk to parents about my experiences, know their anxieties because I've been there - I also know how difficult it is living with a child with ADHD and the negative views of other people. If these parents would like to e mail me off line I'd be happy to provide information. I still suggest to try at least 10 weeks of fish oils before going down the prescribed medication route and for 10% of parents that has helped. ________________________________ From: senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk on behalf of Janrolnick at aol.com Sent: Thu 22/02/2007 20:50 To: senco-forum at lists.becta.org.uk Subject: [senco-forum] ADHD One of our children has just been diagnosed with ADHD (age 10) and the psychiatrist is suggesting ritalin. Mum is in a real quandary. Does anyone have any advice/experiences? What are the alternatives to medication? Many thanks Janice Rolnick SENCO/AST |
